About Analytics

The universal language of Analytics/Analytics: the language of nature/Analytics: the power to decide/Analytics: the science of logical decisions(the science of logic) – the theme here is analytics is applied and evident in nature, organizations and individual lives:

In the 1100's, we believed that alchemy could turn lead into gold. In the 1300's, we presumed that the Earth was at the center of the solar system. In the 1800's, we thought that manned flight was impossible. In the 1940's, we still believed that nuclear radiation was harmless. And even today, the truth is unchanging, just our understanding of it has evolved and our mind has been receptive to the signals around us and has been persistently analyzing them.
Analytics is evident in nature, organizations and individual lives. ‘The divine proportion’ for example, is where the ratio of the whole line to the large segment is the same as the ratio of the large segment to the small segment. The eye, fins and tail fall at golden sections of the length of a dolphin's body. Humans began using it in Egypt, where it was analyzed as the most stable structural design ratio and was used to build the Pyramids. The Greeks referred to it as the “dividing line between the mean and the extreme” and used it in architecture for balance and beauty.
Similarly for a beehive, close packing is important to maximize the use of space. Hexagons fit most closely together without any gaps; so hexagonal wax cells are what bees create to store their eggs and larvae. Hexagons are six-sided polygons, closed, 2-dimensional, many-sided figures with straight edges.

Is one infinity bigger than another infinity? The size of all natural numbers, 1,2,3..., etc., is infinite. The set of all numbers between one and zero is also infinite - is one infinite set larger than the other? The deep questions of maths and analytics can leave us feeling very small in a vast universe.
In individual lives too, we apply analytics day in and day out, consciously or not realizing that we are succumbing to the power of the magic of ANALYTICS. For instance, when you buy a car, follow a recipe, or decorate your home, you're using analytics principles. People have been using these same concepts for thousands of years, across countries and continents. Whether you're sailing a boat off the coast of Japan or building a house in Peru, you're using math to get things done.
How can analytics be so universal? First, human beings didn't invent these concepts; we discovered them. Also, the language of math is numbers, not English or German or Russian and it helps us to shop wisely, buy the right insurance, remodel a home within a budget, understand population growth, or even bet on the horse with the best chance of winning the race.

In organizations, business analytics enables professionals to convert extensive data and statistical and quantitative analysis into powerful insights that can drive efficient decisions. Business analytics can answer essential questions - like why is a particular event happening, what if these trends continue, what will happen next and likewise-problems that form the crux of any decision in a company, based on hard data. It is for this very reason that the size of the Analytics market globally is $25 billion today, doubling in each 5 years. It is expected to grow to $31 billion by the end of 2011. (source: IDC; 2007).
The twin troubles of information overload in industrial spheres and the increasing difficulty in arriving at actionable information based on data analysis is opening up a robust market for business analytics solutions. These solutions would require development of a fundamentally sound and technically resourceful workforce which are not only proficient in use of analytical tools and software but can also resolve decision making problems for diverse business scenarios. A fundamental goal of ATI is to open new vistas of real world opportunities, for individuals in general and the society in particular, by spreading awareness about analytics and utilizing the same for a comprehensive change in outlook and approach in solving business problems
